A Handbook for Teaching Bible-based ESL ~ by J. Wesley Eby
FROM THE PREFACE: The Handbook for Teaching Bible-based ESL has been written primarily for the person who lacks professonal training in ESL (English as a Second Language). Yet all ESL teachers--even experienced ones--should benefit from the many practical suggestions on second language teaching. Although the information applies to both the church and the community, the focus is on Bible-based materials for us in a Christian setting. (Nazarene Publishing House Order number #ELG601.) Other ESL Materials Available at Nazarene Publishing House.
Nazarene Publishing House, through Beacon Hill Press, makes available special English materials known as Intercultural English. These products--designed by people of all cultural backgrounds--are appropriate for bilingual persons, English-as-a-second language speakers, new readers, the learning disabled, and the deaf. They may be used with both new Christians, non-Christians, in Bible studies in churches or homes, Sunday School, mid-week services, and classes from English and literacy. All ESL materials have been written at low reading levels with controlled sentence structure and limited vocabulary, as follows:
-
Level I - First/Second Grade - 400 - 800 vocabulary
-
Level II - Third/Fourth Grade - 700 - 1,200 vocabulary
